Bass Fishing Rods
Bass Fishing Rods
Bass fishing is its own unique form of angling and therefore has its own unique series of rods, reels, lures and other fishing gear. A good bass fishing rod is one that will enable you to put up a good fight and endure a lot punishment. Often bass fishing rods, reels and lures can be found as part of one combo package. You can find everything you need online, and often for less of an investment than you think, so you can get out on the water and start angling all the sooner.
Types of Fly Fishing Rods
Fly fishing rods are specially designed rods that are extremely thin and flexible so that they can cast a fly. The fly is artificial and can be made from lightweight materials such as feathers and other synthetic materials. These fishing rods can be constructed from a number of materials such as graphite/boron composites, fiberglass or carbon/graphite and many other types of materials. In the old days, the rods used to be made from plants such as yew and greenheart. Later, split bamboo was used and can still be found in some fishing rods today. They are renowned for their beauty and classic look. These types of rods tend to be quite fragile and must be used with care in order for them to last a long time. Sometimes they are referred to as cane rods. However, the most commonly used type of bamboo is called Tonkin cane.
Fly fishing rods that are made from bamboo require a lot more care as they are easily damaged. If they are not stored or utilized correctly they can warp. They should not be left lying around unprotected in the sun, as this can cause the varnish on the fishing rod to fade or develop nicks on it. When transporting these types of rods, it should be done with caution as the tips of the rods can be broken easily by a vehicleís door or by getting stuck in the carís powered windows. Apart from this, those who own them consider them as prized possessions. Many anglers still prefer to use them due to their excellent casting abilities. Most of the modern designs and materials used in today’s fishing rods try to emulate the qualities that are found in a bamboo fly rod. They come close but are still unable to capture the full abilities of these rods. When bamboo fly fishing rods are cast, they tend to produce a fluid back cast, which is very smooth. Towards the end of the back cast there is a kind of dampening effect that is generated. The same happens in the case of forward casting, where it generates a dampening effect at the start of casting and later towards the end of the cast.
When compared to other types of fishing rods that are made from synthetic materials, the bamboo rods will have a heavier feel, particularly when they are long. The rods are built by taking a stock of bamboo and then splitting it into many different strips. The strips will then be shaped so that they become long and triangular. This is achieved through planning and by tapering them. Once this has been done, the manufacturer will laminate six of the strips together until the rod is formed. The manufacturing process and the quality required from the bamboo make these types of fly fishing rods fairly expensive when compared with the much cheaper synthetic ones. This is one of the reasons why many fly fishers choose to go for the synthetic materials as it is more affordable.
Fly fishing rods that are made from fiberglass are generally made to be lightweight and strong. They are not expensive like some of the other rods on the market, which may be due to the kind of material that is used. They are constructed by rolling or wrapping a special cloth containing glass fibers around a steel mandrel that has a conical shape. The graphite sheet will start to take shape as it is wrapped around the mandrel. After the fiberglass sheet has been wrapped sufficiently around the mandrel, it is then coated with a thin film of synthetic polymer that shrinks when exposed to high temperatures. This coating is very important, and in its absence will cause the rod to develop helicoidal lines. The graphite sheet while still attached to the mandrel, is placed under high temperature, which causes the graphite sheet to expand. However, the synthetic polymer coating shrinks. These opposing actions create pressure on the graphite sheet and change its molecular structure. The fiberglass rod is then separated from the mandrel and finished off as required.
Taking care of fiberglass fly fishing rods is very important. They must be kept clean and stored correctly in order to preserve them. In order to clean a fly rod, spray any regular household cleaner over the entire length of the rod. Then take a cloth and soak it in some warm water and gently rub down the fly rod along its length. This should be done until you have removed any unwanted material, such as mud or other debris. Rinse off any excess soap with clean running water and then dry the fishing rod using a soft dry towel. To preserve the metal fishing line, you can utilize special rust remover and lubricants. One of the most ideal types of lubricant is gun oil, as it will help to prevent rust from forming on the metal, as well as remove any existing rust that might be present. By doing this, you will help to prolong the life of your fiberglass fly fishing rod.
The most commonly found types of fly fishing rods are made of graphite. They are preferred because they offer very good flexibility and are very light in weight. These types of fishing rods have a power to weight ratio that exceeds that of any other kind of material used. These types of rods used to be very expensive, but with newer manufacturing technologies, they are now able to be produced at more affordable costs. This has led to the graphite rod being seen as good value for money, as it offers very good quality at a reasonable price. The reason why graphite rods are preferred is because they are much thinner and lighter than fiberglass rods. This means that they are easier to cast and have a better accuracy, which is derived from their sensitivity. Even though fiberglass fly fishing rods are cheaper than graphite ones, it is the versatility of the graphite rod that makes it more popular.
